The silhouettes used in this painting are traced from video stills, using video I shot along I-90 while driving past downtown Spokane. The mirroring or doubling of the images is both a formal solution to dealing with a landscape in a vertical format, as well as a response to the built environment of Spokane. The images hint at reflections in water, alluding to the natural landscape that surrounds Spokane, but also imply unceasing cycles of development and sprawl.
